Through the Bible: 2 Peter

DAY 1 OF 3

Knowledge

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge
2 Peter 1:5 (ESV)

In the first ten verses of 2 Peter 1, the word “knowledge” is repeated five times (in the NIV version). The apostle Simon Peter emphasized that this knowledge is based on faith. Such knowledge will lead to self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness, and love. These qualities will make us effective and productive believers.

I believe this knowledge comes from understanding Scripture and knowing that the Lord Jesus came to redeem us from our sins.

Gaining knowledge is a step towards spiritual maturity and will guard us from false prophecy and teachings. This is a point that Peter wanted to leave to us before he departed this life.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for dying on the cross for us that our sins may be redeemed. We pray that we will continue to grow in faith and in knowledge so that we may be sure of our calling and enter into Your eternal kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 2

About this Plan

Through the Bible: 2 Peter

Following his first letter, Apostle Peter must have received reports of false teachers and backsliders who indulged in sin and scoffed at Jesus’s second coming. He then writes this letter to strengthen believers in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, calling them to escape from worldly corruption and to grow in the qualities of faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly affection and love.
