Set Your Mind On Winning
Losing weight and actually keeping it off has never been easy for me.
In the past, I'd try and succeed within short timeframes only to pile the weight back on shortly after. I felt like I was always taking two steps forward and five steps back as the old, and rather big, me reappeared. I might as well have been dancing the moonwalk.
I just couldn't seem to remain faithful to my new body and commit to the process required to keep the weight off. Sure, I knew what I had to do: exercise, eat the right foods, maintain a positive and a teachable mindset that I was constantly informing and growing through education...but I kept falling off the wagon.
Does this sound familiar? You start something new and within a couple of weeks, or even days, the motivation is gone and you find yourself slipping.
For example:
- The bible study plan you started at the beginning of the year (but you can’t even remember where your bible is...)
- Morning family prayers you set in motion but now can’t get up early enough to continue
- That book you dreamed about and even started to write but somehow lost the pen, or perhaps, the will
- A music project you’ve gathered all the resources for. but abandoned in the end.
The frustration keeps growing as the days roll into years. Plus all the people around you seem to be excelling in those areas you're struggling in.
Trust me, I get it. Which is why I can tell you this: whatever it is, don't lose hope. You can still get back on track. I certainly did. Yes, I finally managed to lose weight AND keep it off for good. I even started a regimen of walking for at least 2 hours every single day to maintain the weight loss and not go back to “Egypt”. And as an added bonus, this helped me to spend more time in the word as I utilised my walking hours to spend time listening to the audio bible.
Has it been easy? God knows I wish I could say yes. But as trying as it has been, I have remained committed and sold out to my mission, and set my mind on winning.
Here are some tips that have helped me succeed in finishing what I started for a win:
- Remember why you started in the first place- Yes, it always comes back to your "why". And it needs to be a very strong one or it won't work. For me, that was keeping my body (temple) healthy.
- Create a plan you can commit to when it comes to reading the bible. found the plans on this app very useful.
- Push past your limits and just go for it, or as Nike would say - Just Do It! Trust me, you're stronger than you give yourself credit for and remember, as we discussed yesterday, God has already given you everything you need;
- Tie your goal to something you already enjoy doing. For instance, riding your stationary bike or walking while listening to the bible;
- Take encouragement from the word of God which says this: “Now you should finish what you started. Let the eagerness you showed, in the beginning, be matched now by your giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:11 (a) NLT
Remember, you CAN be successful in your endeavours if you start with God and set your mind on winning, as an honour to Him. A journey of a 1000 miles not only starts with one step but starts with God and continues by trusting Him and the many (action) steps that follow. Trust Him to give you those steps - He will come through for you.
