DAY 4 OF 6

The Sandals Of The Gospel Of Peace

The Sword of the Spirit is strapped to your side, so now it’s time to put on your shoes.

The Sandals of the Gospel of Peace are a beautiful picture of being ready to share the gospel with anyone you come across. It’s bringing peace to the lives of people all around you. Strap on those sandals and bring the good news of what a life following Jesus means to those who need it!

To get ready for the day, we have to put on shoes before going to work or school. Even when we are tired and skip some other parts of our morning routine, putting on our shoes is an important step we can’t skip before we walk out of our house. Just like putting on our shoes, putting on the gospel every day prepares us for whatever we have to do.

Now, we can talk all day about “putting on the gospel,” but it won’t really sink in until we know what it means.

The word gospel literally means “good news.” We have the best news we could ever get, and it’s that Jesus set us free from death forever and made us children of God! When we put that good news on ourselves, we are reminding ourselves what Jesus has done for us.

Here are some ways you can “put on” the gospel:

  • Say Jesus’ name out loud when you feel scared or sad
  • Listen to worship music in the morning
  • Put a sticky note on your door that says, “I am alive in Jesus!”
  • Read a Bible verse out loud
  • Look in the mirror and tell yourself the good news of Jesus

When you put on the Sandals of the Gospel of Peace, you are getting ready to walk with other people. Just like shoes prepare you for walking, the gospel prepares you for going on your friends’ journeys with them. Now that you’re wearing God’s sandals, you’re ready to share Him with other people.

Does that feel scary?

It can be hard to share good news when you’re not sure how other people will react. It’s like breaking in a new pair of shoes—uncomfortable!

It’s okay to feel nervous, but it’s important to hold on to your excitement and not let the devil steal it from you. It’s actually better to keep your shoes on even when you’re scared, because they’re the Sandals of the Gospel of Peace. Just like how your new shoes feel better on your feet the more you wear them, the good news of Jesus will feel more comfortable and will bring you more peace when you keep walking in it.

Side note: If you’re with a guy who makes it harder for you to put on your Gospel Sandals, he’s probably going to end up stealing your peace. Don’t let him take off those shoes—you’ve got work to do!

Don’t kick off your shoes and get cozy, sister; get out there! You’ve got the best news ever to tell. Break in those Gospel Shoes and share the peace of Jesus with the people around you.

Lord, I’m a little nervous to share my good news with other people, but I know it’s important and I want to be excited about it. Will you please help me to break in my Gospel Shoes and walk with other people? Amen.
