THE HOLY EQUIPPER: PART TWO - GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT

The gifts of the Spirit are wonderful, supernatural gifts of empowerment that the Holy Spirit gives to the church! They are given to the body of Christ, his people, so we can build each other up. There are some important things we need to remember about the gifts so that we don't misuse them or take advantage of them.

Gifts are given to us by the spirit - they do not indicate one person's superiority over another - or even greater devotion or dedication to the Lord. They are more often than not, in line with a person's personality and wiring so they work supernaturally, naturally.

Gifts are meant to be operated in love and submitted to the Lordship of Jesus.

We often think of gifts as being used in the church or a connected group - and that is certainly where they are most obvious. However, gifts can be powerfully used in all areas of our lives.

If we look at the story of the woman at the well in John 14, we see Jesus, anointed by the Spirit at his Baptism, using what in our lives would look like a word of knowledge. His words open the heart of the woman at the well to hear him, and this inspires her to go and tell a whole town about Jesus.

The interesting thing about how Jesus operates in this story is how natural he is. He doesn't use spiritual language or pray loudly - he just tells her how her life is without condemnation.

In our lives, we can operate in these giftings, not only in church settings, but in making business decisions, guiding children, managing work teams, showing mercy to those in need, and in believing for friends and family. The Holy Spirit and his spiritual gifts are not locked in our church meetings - he is with us to empower us every day.

"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them" - 1 Corinthians 12:4

Prayer Point: Holy Spirit, give me boldness and love to use the gifts you have given me, to build up people in every area of my life. Help me to be a good steward of these gifts and use them for your glory, and to build your kingdom.
