Devotions for Kids Dealing With Anxiety

DAY 3 OF 5

Be Still and Wait

Between schoolwork, activities, clubs, and whatever else is on your plate, you probably feel like there is never time for rest. You might even believe that rest is not productive or that doing nothing is bad. It is easy to look around and believe that the only way to get something done or to feel better is to do it on your own.

What if the thing we need to do is simply to be still and wait, like in today’s verse? More than that, what if we can learn to wait even if we aren’t the most patient person? I know that our schedules and the world can make it seem like we aren’t doing enough. However, many times Scripture says we need to be still and wait on God. Be still before the Lord. Maybe this means that in our stillness we’ll find help. That in doing nothing we are actually being productive. Turn to God in the stillness. Maybe even ask Him to help you wait and provide the patience to be still.

When was the last time you were still and did nothing? Today set a timer for five minutes and ask God to join your stillness and strengthen your patience. During those five minutes focus on your breath, count the shades of green where you are, or read today’s verse over and over. Did it get easier as you sat there in stillness?
