An Unexpected Encounter

DAY 5 OF 5

Jesus unites us despite our differences

In Jesus' time, Samaritans and Jews did not interact. Can you imagine how controversial it must have been for Jesus to stop and talk to this woman?

Jesus, being a Jew, broke down the barriers that existed between these two peoples by approaching a Samaritan woman without any prejudice. This is very challenging! At the end of the story, that same woman that everyone despised was sharing with the whole town what Jesus had done in her life.

Jesus changes us forever, but revival begins with repentance. This is what the woman demonstrated. She allowed Jesus to see her as vulnerable and agreed to leave all her past behind. But first, she had to make a decision: not to allow her experiences to limit her and alienate her from others.

God is a God of unity. He wants to see us surrounded by the people he designed to be by our side. Let God bring together what you think is already lost.

Lastly, be intentional with thoughts of yourself and others. God can, and will, bring unity into your life with those around you, but it depends on your attitudes and your willingness to see the change.

He seeks you and He can find your hiding place, but you have to take the step of wanting to be found. He offers us living water, but it is our job to accept our spiritual thirst.

Make the wise decision today to be found by God. If you do, your life will be one step away from having an unexpected appointment with Jesus every day.

Prayer: God, seal this story in my heart. Open my understanding and give me wisdom to apply these teachings to my daily life. Change me to reflect your love. Amen.
