Security
No matter who you are, where you come from, or what kind of upbringing you’ve had, you are probably a person who likes to feel safe. The decisions you make about where you live or the friends you have are rooted in the desire to be secure. It’s not a bad thing. It’s human nature.
So, it is not surprising that when you read these words from 2 Corinthians, you feel uneasy. After all, giving freely is the opposite of saving for the future. Scattering gifts is different than putting money in your IRA. It messes with everyone’s sense of security.
God speaks to those insecurities when he says, “I will bless you abundantly. You will have everything you need.” Sometimes we cling to our financial security because we’re afraid that we might not have enough to live on. If that’s you, don’t feel bad. It’s normal.
However, one of the most beautiful parts of the Christian life is that it lets us give up control. Being a Christian means surrendering every area of our lives to God and believing that He will take care of us. And when we truly believe that God will give us what we need in abundance, we stop relying so much on ourselves and, instead, depend on Him. Then the idea of giving cheerfully becomes a natural extension of our trust in God and not an enemy of our security.
Think about this question today: Are you holding your finances with a tight fist or are you open to letting God take control?

About this Plan
If we’re honest, some things we read in the Bible leave us shaking our heads. Is it really even possible to sincerely love people who are different from us? Can we really be content with what we have? How about prayer? Does God really hear us? During this study, we’re going to talk about how things that can seem so impossible to us are completely possible with God. Really!
