Those Who Made a Stand for God

The Bible is filled with people who made a stand. Here are just a few examples of those who made a stand for God:

· First, Israel at the Red Sea. Moses told the people, “Stand still and see the deliverance of God.” Though Pharaoh’s army was pursuing them, God gave the Israelites the victory. They were outnumbered, not equipped for battle, but not out of faith. They believed God, and He worked a miracle.

· Gideon went from cowardice to boldness, from cowering to courageous action. He was outnumbered and overwhelmed, but God gave him the victory.

· David stood before Goliath. He was standing in the name of the Lord. He was overshadowed, he lacked training, but he was not out of faith.

· Jehoshaphat was the king of Judah. His people were to be attacked by the Moabites and the Ammonites, so he sought the Lord in prayer. Everyone stood before the Lord until the answer came in: “This battle is not yours; it is the Lord’s.” So, they went out singing and praising, and God gave them the victory. They didn’t even have to fight; God had turned the opposing soldiers against each other, and when the men of Judah got there, their enemies were all dead.

· Another example is Shammah. He took his stand in the middle of a small bean field. He defended it. He struck down the Philistines, and the Lord brought about a great victory. Shammah made a stand.

· Elisha, at Dothan, was surrounded by the enemy. They had come to capture and take him away because he was revealing their king’s secrets. Elisha’s servant was afraid, so Elisha prayed, “God, open the eyes of this servant.” The servant opened his eyes and exclaimed, “There are more of us than there are of them!” He had seen the chariots of fire and the angels of God on the hillside. God gave them the victory.

When you’re under pressure and feel overwhelmed and under attack, stand on God’s Word. Trust Him, believe Him, and put your faith in Him.
