Children Are a Heritage from the Lord

There are stigmas and lies in our culture that tell us that children are a burden and that our goal each day is to just survive them. There are videos of moms barely and begrudgingly hanging on until bedtime. While that may be a reality some days (kids can give us a run for our money at times!) that’s not the end of the story or the narrative of motherhood we want to hang on to. The Lord looks at our children differently- He says they are a heritage and reward to us! What a stark contrast.

This is the first lie that we will give back to the enemy about our children. Before they are ever in our arms, we can start believing that they are a special possession and a sweet fruit given to us to enjoy. Yes, we will have some hard days, some hard seasons, or even some hard years. But God calls us to never forget that they are a heritage given to us by Him.

I suspect that you have already had some pregnancy woes at this point. The days that drag on while you feel sick, unenergetic, and maybe just flat-out heavy! Call these days your initiation into the throes of motherhood. Even now, you are making sacrifices for that little one- hanging on until it’s finally bedtime.

Mama, practice makes perfect. Start adding some pillars or rhythms to your day to remind yourself that this little one, though he/she may be taking a toll, is a gift and a heritage. Enjoy your moments that you feel good and see tiny, bursting movements from your belly as a sign that God is good and His plan for motherhood is just the same- it’s good. All the time.
