Savior of the World
WHAT DOES IT SAY?
Read: John 4:19–26 and John 3:16
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
The two scriptures above share a clear theme: Jesus is the Son of God, the world's Savior. When the Samaritan woman said that she knew that a Savior was coming, Jesus revealed to her that He was that Savior.
John 3:16 shows us that Jesus came so that those who believe in Him can have eternal life. Jesus is the only way to heaven, and when the Samaritan woman finally recognized that, her life was forever changed.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO US?
The Samaritan woman came to a place in her life where she believed that Jesus was the Savior of the world. Similar to her, we must come to a place where we believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He came to save us from our sins. Jesus doesn’t come to bring fear or condemnation. He comes with love and a desire for us to have a relationship with Him.
As we learned in yesterday’s devotion, Jesus desires to have a relationship with us. In reading John 3:16, notice what Jesus said: “whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jesus tells us that He is the way to heaven, and Romans 10:9 says, “IF you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
There is no doubt that Jesus loves you … the question is, do you believe in Him? Just like the Samaritan woman, you must come to a place in your life where you believe in Jesus for yourself.
WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the Savior of the world? If you’re not sure, ask Him to make Himself real to you. If you do believe in your heart that Jesus is the Savior, pray this prayer with us:
“Lord Jesus, thank You for coming into the world to forgive us and save us. I believe in You, and I need You. Please forgive all of my sins, and accept me as part of Your family. And lead me from now on … for the rest of my life.”
That’s awesome! Now take five minutes to write down what this means to you.
