Lord, Help Me Not To...

DAY 6 OF 7

DAY 6
LORD, HELP ME NOT TO BE PRIDEFUL!

Have you ever said the phrase, “I told you so!” Have you ever been told, “I told you so!” As a wife, mom and friend, I’ve certainly been there! You know the feeling… you give advice to a loved one, only for them to do the very opposite of what you told them… and the situation unfolds exactly as you said it would. Or, maybe it’s vice versa. People try to speak into your life who you just don’t want to receive anything from, and you ignore their warning… only for things to end up like they said it would.

Sometimes, as believers, God will give us insight into a friend or loved one’s situation. Or, He’ll give someone else insight into our own situation. However, if there is a spirit of pride that exists in us or in others, we become less effective as believers.

Why?

Because pride is a roadblock. It will ultimately block you relationally from others. Pride says, “I don’t need your help, or I’m better than you.” I know it sounds harsh, but that’s the ugly truth of pride. In fact, Proverbs 16:18 (NLT) says, “Pride goes before destruction, and haughtiness before a fall.” Pride left unchecked in our lives will only cause destruction.

To combat pride in our everyday lives, we have to train ourselves with the Word of God to know what is good and what is evil. That's called discernment. If there was ever a time to ask for the gift of discernment, it's now.

Ask God to show you the areas in your life you’re not allowing Him to speak into. Pray and seek out Godly friends who can give you a loving spiritual “slap in the face” when you’re going off track. AND be that type of friend for someone else. A life lived in surrender to Jesus daily will not only produce discernment, but will also keep pride from creeping into our lives.

Today, I want to encourage you to replace pride with discernment.
