#Jesus22 - Daily Devotionals

DAY 19 OF 42

I remember this as if it happened yesterday: 4 years ago, I was sitting in my office and got the news in our family group that my father had developed a large tumor under his ribs. Nothing was known for sure yet, but he needed to see a specialist urgently.

I looked out the window and didn't know what to think. Until then, I had hardly had any contact with such diseases. "Will my father already be dead tomorrow?" "No, God can perform a miracle!?" "Surely, it is not so bad? But what if it is and God only heals him in heaven?" "How is my mother doing? What will she do when Dad is gone?" "How are my other siblings handling the news?" My thoughts were still circling around the various topics when suddenly a supernatural calm filled me. I didn't know what to pray, so I began to pray in unknown languages. I didn't understand anything myself, but at that moment, I felt a very special closeness to God.

There are moments when we don't know what to think and feel. Moments when we feel emotionally powerless. It is precisely for these moments that Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit, who wants to give us comfort, strength, and advice. Inner strength in weakness: this is the result of a living faith.

I experienced this guidance of the Holy Spirit in a very challenging moment. He wants to give the same guidance in everyday situations. The situations where we need advice and strength. Situations that challenge me interpersonally at work, for example, or where I just can't manage to get off my thought carousel.

You don't have to rely on your own strength. The good news is we are allowed to be weak. And that's why the Bible talks about weakness being our true strength.

ACTION STEP

For what situation today do you need divine strength and divine counsel? Take a minute, hold the situation out to the Holy Spirit, and allow Him to give you peace, counsel, and strength.
