Through the Bible: Zechariah

DAY 2 OF 3

A King Like No Other

Rejoice, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a donkey’s colt. I will remove the battle chariots from Israel and the warhorses from Jerusalem. I will destroy all the weapons used in battle, and your king will bring peace to the nations. His realm will stretch from sea to sea and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.
Zechariah 9:9-10 (NLT)

Think of national day parades where the entire strength of a ruler’s military is on display. Think of the gusto a ruler has when he speaks swelling words about his nation’s strength. Think of the threats one nation has against another through the number of missiles displayed. All have something to prove. But Christ is a king like no other.

Christ is not a king who plays the fiddle when the nation burns. He is not a king who lives lavishly while His people languish in poverty. He is not a king who shames His people. Christ is a king that makes the people leap for joy. Children will sing, “Hosanna!” Young men will see visions. Old men will dream dreams. Sons and daughters will prophesy. The blind see. The lame walk. The deaf hear. The sick are healed. Righteous, victorious, yet humble – Christ comes to bring peace. This King, who came in humility to Jerusalem two millennia ago, riding on a donkey of peace, now reigns in heaven and gives peace to all.

Prayer

Father God, thank You for coming to us meek and lowly in heart as an open invitation for us to find rest in You. Thank You for telling us that You are for us and not against us, that You did not come to condemn but to save and reconcile with us. Thank You for Your peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 1Day 3

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Zechariah

The book of Zechariah comprises two sessions. The first consists of eight visions centered on encouraging the Jewish remnants to rebuild God’s house, followed by four messages proclaiming God’s faithfulness and righteousness. The second includes two messianic oracles, foreshadowing the first and the second coming of Christ. Christians awaiting Jesus’ rescue will find hope from this book, and just as Zechariah prophesied, “Behold, your king is coming to you!”
