Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
Thirsty
What is your go-to refreshment when you are thirsty? Do you reach for a sports drink or a nice tall glass of lemonade? How about a soda or freshly squeezed juice? Any water fans out there? Your mouth is dry, your throat is parched, and your tongue feels swollen. You pour that cold, refreshing liquid down your throat…ahhhh! Your entire body relaxes. All is well.
How about when your soul is parched? What do you do when you have no more patience for your sibling or that kid at school who won't stop talking? What do you do when you've heard enough sad news or stories about death and sickness around the world? How do you refresh your soul when you are just going through the motions each day?
Verse 5 tells us what David did: 1: "I remember days of old." He stopped to remember what God had done in the past. For you, it could mean remembering a specific thing God has done in your life OR it could mean opening up Scripture and reading about something God did through someone else. 2: "I meditate on all that You have done." He thought and prayed about what God has done.
3: "I ponder the work of Your hands." He thought about God's creation and miracles. He pondered them, meaning he really considered what he thought about them. 4: "I reach out my hands to You; My throat thirsts for you as a parched land." He pursued God's company. And guess what… All of these things made him want God even more! So much that he thirsted for it!
GO DEEP: What do you do when your soul is parched? David gave us four examples of what he did when his soul was parched. Try one today.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
