Youth of the Nation Sample

Perfect Unity
When we wrote “Youth of the Nation,” we had just learned that a school shooting had just happened down the street from us in our hometown. This song is probably the best-known of all our songs; it is an anthem. Wherever we go, people who don’t even know who the band is, who don’t follow us, hear the song and they know it—all over the world! It’s had an impact on their life.
We were playing in Singapore for the first time. We played outside, in a park. It was a free show. Now, in Singapore, there are all kinds of rules. It is a very, very strict country compared to the U.S. You can’t even think about chewing gum or spitting on the ground. Anyway, because Singapore is in Asia, we were just expecting mostly Asian guys and girls to come. But there was an American military base nearby, and the place was packed. There were many more people than we had anticipated would show up.
It was so cool to see so many skin colors and skin tones, so many nationalities and even different religions. When we sang “Youth of the Nation,” they all sang along in English. There was just this overall sense of unity. Nothing else mattered except the fact that we cared for one another; there was a sense of powerful, wonderful love. It wasn’t about what was going on in the world; our disagreements and arguments were not important. What mattered were people. Human beings. It was four minutes and sixteen seconds of perfect unity.
That’s the kind of unity we can look forward to when we work for it (Ephesians 4:3). That’s the awesome feeling that comes when God’s people live together in unity (Psalm 133:1). That’s what we’ll experience when “persons from every tribe and language and people and nation” serve God together (Revelation 5:9–10).That’s the kind of unity that God wants us to model in a broken society, in a troubled world (1 Peter 3:8). We are the youth of the nation. Through Christ, we can do this.
