Life Is Precious
Do you find it hard to think about the future? Sometimes the days seems to stretch out endlessly, especially if you are waiting for something. Maybe you remember what it was like to wait for a tooth to come out, for your hiccups to go away, for the bell to ring, for the week to end, for Christmas to finally get here, for spring, for summer vacation.
Maybe it isn’t the waiting that gets to you, but the uncertainty. Not knowing what will happen can make it hard to think about the future. Worrying about what is to come can interfere with your life now. No one knows what tomorrow brings. You can’t even be sure of all that might happen today, but there are things you can do to appreciate what you have, right now, at this very moment.
Take a deep breath and be grateful for life itself. Try to hear your own heartbeat. How amazing it is to have this ability to examine what is going on in your own body, in your own heart! You could go through life unaware and oblivious. It is easy to do when you repeat the same routine each day. Stop and pay attention to your surroundings, the youth of the nation, the people around you. Who would you want to hug one more time? Who would you want to thank? Who might you reach out to?
Life is precious. It can also be cut short. We don’t know what the future holds. The Bible says that though our days are like a breath, or like a shadow, God cares about us. We matter. We are precious to Him. He has a purpose for us. He knows who we are, even when we forget it or feel like others don’t see or know us. He not only knows us, but He loves us. God watches over us and is as close as a breath, a heartbeat, a shadow, a prayer. He is ready, able, and willing to help us, no matter what troubles we face or what tomorrow brings. He gives us strength. He is our shelter. His love endures forever.

P.O.D.’s song, “Youth of the Nation,” explores the tragic situations teens face in a broken world, affirming there must be something more. If you long for meaning, hope, and love, know that there is Someone who promises our lives have meaning. Jesus gives us hope. He loves us no matter what. In our darkest moments, we can turn to Him for comfort.
