Radically Rediscovering RestSample
THE SEARCH
How did God create you to specifically find rest?
When was the last time you felt real peace?
Two memories come to my mind.
One is sitting on the beach with my wife, watching the sunset on the North Shore of Hawaii. The smell of local food fills the air, and the sound of the waves crashing are the perfect compliment to the vibrant orange and pink sunset painted in the sky. We laugh and share our favorite memories from our first year of marriage.
The second is cruising on my skateboard at my local skatepark. My mind is free from every other thought than what I’m experiencing in this exact moment. Wind crashes against my face; I feel a weightlessness as I go higher up the ramp, and the sound of every grind of my truck on the coping brings a smile to my face.
One of those you can probably relate to.
If you’re not a skateboarder, it may be hard for you to understand how I find rest at my local skatepark. And that’s okay! God gives us different passions to use to share the gospel but also to enjoy and find rest in.
What passion has God given you that you haven’t made time for because life has been “too busy?” It could be hiking, dancing, cycling, photography, painting, music, etc. Whatever it is that you once had a passion for, or that you may want to try now, take time to do it!
TAKE ACTION: Find something you are passionate about and rest in it this week. It may be something that you used to do often or something brand new! Make a fun date night out of it if you want to and enjoy the passions God has given you.
