Forms of LoveSample
A Love That Increases God
This love caper is a complex business. In a magnificent, dedicate-your-life-to-it way.
Forget the relative simplicity of flowers, dinner and doe-eyes on Valentine’s Day; the love of God in Jesus Christ is a many-splendoured thing with so many facets and out-workings.
Exhibit A: Jesus equating the power of love to the magnitude of forgiveness in this famous household scene where Simon, a Jewish leader, is compared to a ‘sinner’ woman.
The reverence and adoration she oozes is a great outpouring of love, according to Jesus. It flows from her gratitude at being saved from the eternal consequences of her many sins.
Grasping how sin separates us all from God’s love, yet Jesus’ sacrifice restores us to it, should compel us all to the same excessive love of the woman with the perfume. Love that increases for Jesus and God, and for our neighbours who, like us, can be forgiven much – and can love so much more.

About this Plan
Love. Over time it’s a word that’s so intricately linked to its romanticized definition that we can miss not only the many forms of love that are around us, but more importantly, we can miss the enormity of the love God has for us. As you journey through this week’s readings, spend time reflecting on your own experiences of love.
