The Love Story Of Valentine

Have you heard the love story that is thought to be the possible origin of Valentine’s Day?

Valentine was a bishop in the third century in Rome who was executed for providing marriage ceremonies for men who were going to be enlisted into the army. The emperor of the time prohibited marriage of these soldiers, as he believed a man’s love for his wife would make him a coward on the battlefield. Valentine, however, believed in faith-filled love and in marriage as a way of showing God’s love, so he secretly continued to marry couples.

Valentine demonstrated his own faith-filled love when he was charged for disobeying the emperor’s decree and died as a martyr for faith and sacrificial love.

God continues to offer His steadfast eternal love to us all. Today I choose to say YES again to this love that can hold me and remains true through thick and thin.
