Everyone expects to encounter God when we want to - on our best days, hearts full, spirits willing, looking to Him for inspiration. What about when we are at a low point, on the run from our messes? Do we expect Him to break into those moments? Do we want Him to?

Something to think about while you are reading today’s passage:

For all the talk of blessings and promises, Jacob clearly isn't aware of just how intimately God is involved in his story. He thought he was making a getaway, but God has met him in the middle of it. How aware are we of what God is doing in the background of our lives and world sometimes?

Something to talk about with players of The Aetherlight:

Players will have been part of Julian's flight from trouble, and helped him pick up some of the pieces. They may have been surprised that the Scarlet Man invited Julian to help the Resistance after all that. You could talk with them about how God can work with the real circumstances of our lives and doesn't have to wait for us to be 'fixed up' first.
