DAY 24 OF 32

Faithful in Setback

Sarah Freymuth

READY

“God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.” — 1 Corinthians 1:9

SET

Setbacks are frustrating. An injury that’s taking longer to rehab than the doctors first told you. A season that doesn’t go as planned, especially when you came into it as the top-ranked team, but your record doesn’t reflect it. Or even a season that is cut short or evaporates completely.

Maybe our strength lies not in what we can do but in who we can rely on when things don’t go our way. When circumstances seem out of our hands, there’s One whose hands are capable enough to take the frustration, confusion, and disappointment and replace them with His peace.

God wants us to come to Him with our troubles and the things that let us down because He wants a deep relationship with us. Like a good teammate who helps you with your backhand or turning a double play, God wants you to be the best person, athlete, family member, and friend you can be. His goal is to get us like His Son Jesus, so we can share the hope we have that doesn’t go away, even if things go wrong. He wants us anchored to Him, to get to know His character, so we can trust in His faithfulness and lean on it when we have nowhere else to turn.

He is faithful to do what He says He will do, and you can hold tight to this truth. If you’re worried about the unknown, tell Him, and then listen for His response. Call to Him and let Him reveal what you need to know for that moment, and then rest in the fact that He will be at work on your behalf as He builds your faith.

Setbacks are opportunities to put faith to the test and tune our hearts to hope in Him. God’s Word is good, and He can use these setbacks as a means to show His glory. Let Him, and then look to see how He shows up.
