DAY 2 OF 7

Acts 27: 27-31 NIV

27 On the fourteenth night we were still being driven across the Adriatic Sea, when about midnight the sailors sensed they were approaching land. 28 They took soundings and found that the water was a hundred and twenty feet deep. A short time later they took soundings again and found it was ninety feet deep. 29 Fearing that we would be dashed against the rocks, they dropped four anchors from the stern and prayed for daylight. 30 In an attempt to escape from the ship, the sailors let the lifeboat down into the sea, pretending they were going to lower some anchors from the bow. 31 Then Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, "Unless these men stay with the ship, you cannot be saved."

Fight or Flight

Many of you have heard that the brain responds to fear in two ways, either fight or flight. When the body is under extreme stress, a psychological reaction makes you decide if you will stay and "fight" a problem or take "flight" and run away from the issue.

We are being inundated with fear right now. We are in one of the greatest times of uncertainty that we've seen in decades, and the same fear we're all feeling can manifest differently in each of us. When we feel fear, it's important to remember that the God who created peace is with us and will never leave us during a storm. God never promised that we wouldn't go through storms or times of uncertainty; He promised that He would be right there with us as we walk through them.

Don't Jump Ship

As we face uncertainty, it is vital that we don't give up too soon. Paul encouraged the men to stay with the ship because he had a promise that God was going to bring them through the storm. No matter what happens in our world, we can cling to a Savior who will bring us through. Storms will come; outlast them. Uncertainty will come; refuse to be shaken. There's never been a storm that hasn't eventually relented, and the same will be true of your life. Stay with the ship; the storm will pass!
