Through the Bible: Jeremiah

DAY 18 OF 19

Be a Good Shepherd

My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray, turning them away on the mountains. From mountain to hill they have gone. They have forgotten their fold.
Jeremiah 50:6 (ESV)

God points out that the lostness of the sheep is on the shepherds. It’s because the shepherds have led them astray, turning them away from God. Are you a shepherd in your church, fellowship group or family?  Have you carried out your responsibility according to God’s way? Bad shepherds only focus on what they get from the flock, instead of what they give. On the other hand, a good shepherd will always care for their flock.

As a shepherd, we have to remember Ezekiel 34:2b–4 by heart:

Thus says the Lord God: Ah, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves!  Should not shepherds feed the sheep? You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep. The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the injured you have not bound up, the strayed you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought, and with force and harshness you have ruled them.

We have to make sure our flock is being cared for and we will not lead them astray!

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your everlasting love for Your sheep. May You always give us wisdom and discernment on how to feed and care for our flock.  May Your Spirit be always with us and guide us to be good shepherds according to Your way.  We pray all these in Your mighty name, Amen!

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Jeremiah

Jeremiah, the author of this book, was born in approximately 650 BC. He was called by God to prophesy to the southern kingdom of Judah of the imminent judgement due to their disobedience to God. Often mocked and beaten for his prophecies, Jeremiah remained faithful to his calling. Though Judah was given forty years to repent, the people continued in sin and were eventually exiled to Babylon in 586 BC.
