Reflections for Father's Day

DAY 13 OF 14

A Perfect Father

You were always there for me, Dad!’  The young woman shoved that card back in the rack.  ‘How can I thank you for all the things you taught?’ Not quite right, either. She grimaced, and thought ‘Where's a card that won't make me feel like a hypocrite? Something like ‘You were always too busy with your career to come to my school plays, so I don't have childhood memories of fun times with you and feel so distant that conversation is mostly about the weather or the news, but Happy Father's Day anyway.’?’

No father is perfect. I have made serious mistakes in parenting.  The Bible describes Lot as a righteous man (2 Peter 2:7-8), but Lot failed his daughters, causing much misery.

We have all probably felt let down in some way by our kids, whether by minor disappointments or by deep, lasting wounds.

Regardless, we can rejoice that our heavenly Father is perfect and loves us unconditionally.

Have you asked God to rebuild that father-daughter/son relationship?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help us as fathers, as parents, to rebuild so that buying a card is a lot easier for our kids. Amen.

About this Plan

Reflections for Father's Day

These devotions look at what the Bible says about fathers and families, and the qualities which make a good father; or indeed, what makes a good parent and follower of Jesus. The apostle Paul tells others to follow his example. So, as we approach Father’s Day, let’s reflect on the role of fathers in the lives of their kids, their families, and their friends as we follow Jesus.
