Reflections for Father's DaySample
The Challenges of Parenthood
It’s our responsibility to guide our kids. Not the school, not the government, but you—as a parent.
Being a parent is a privilege and responsibility with huge dividends for children when we are present and engaged in their lives. I love being a dad/grandad! But honestly, being a parent is one of the greatest challenges.
Truth be told, many parents are hurting today because of the foolish decisions of their children. In naivety, I used to think I could always draw a line connecting the bad choices of a child with the failings of their parent. I see things differently now. I know of many godly (not perfect) parents who have modelled for their kids what it means to follow Christ only to have their hearts broken by children who have pursued one horrible choice after another. If you look closely, you can see the pain in their eyes.
Are you aware God is drawing prodigal after prodigal back into a relationship with their Father? So don’t give up!
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, we lift our children to you. Make us worthy of the high calling of parenthood. Gently lead us in the ways of integrity and righteousness so that our children may see us as an example worth following. In him, Amen.

About this Plan
These devotions look at what the Bible says about fathers and families, and the qualities which make a good father; or indeed, what makes a good parent and follower of Jesus. The apostle Paul tells others to follow his example. So, as we approach Father’s Day, let’s reflect on the role of fathers in the lives of their kids, their families, and their friends as we follow Jesus.
