"Abiding in Christmas: Daily Advent Thoughts" by Bryan Craig
DAY FOURTEEN
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might He increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted, but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31 ESV)
The prophet Isaiah was one of God’s favorite mouthpieces in proclaiming words about the coming Messiah, Jesus. In the Old Testament, God mainly spoke through His prophets, who would then share the messages with the people. But One was coming who would tear down the dividing wall between God and His people, who would give all access to hear from God directly. “Have you not known? Have you not heard?” His name is Jesus! He will renew your strength, He will help you run your race to the end, He will help you fly like an eagle.
APPLICATION: Jesus was born 2,000 years ago, and He was crucified and was buried, BUT He rose from the dead. Before He ascended to Heaven, He promised He would be coming back to get us. This Christmas, in the midst of our hustle and bustle, are we waiting on Jesus? He is coming back for His followers, but through His Spirit, He’s here now. Do you know Him?
