Growing As A MentorSample
“You Have What It Takes”
Mentor’s Perspective:
You may not believe this, but you have what it takes to be a great mentor. The word mentoring means to “empower another person by sharing your experiences and resources.” To say it another way, when you intentionally share, with transparency and authenticity, what you have learned with others, they will grow in multiple areas of their life.
A lot of us have survived the ups and downs of life alone. As a mentor, you have the opportunity to help others not just survive, but thrive. Most people just need someone to hear, encourage and support them. If you can do this, you have what it takes to be a mentor!
God wants to use you and all that you have experienced to influence and change lives through mentoring. The question is…will you let Him?
Mentee’s Perspective:
In every season of life, it helps to have someone walk along with you, cheering you on.
As a mentee, I don’t expect my mentor to be perfect, or to have all the right answers. I expect them to be real, and I want to be real with them. Life can sometimes be messy, confusing, difficult, or lonely. As a mentor, you have the opportunity to make someone’s life a little bit brighter. A listening ear, a friend to laugh with, a boost of hope, and a bold prayer – it can all make the world of difference! We aren’t asking for much, just sit down with us, have a cup of coffee or tea, and share life’s tears, and oh so many happy things.

About this Plan
What’s your reaction to the word mentoring? “Scary!” “I don’t know enough!” “What is mentoring?!?!” Mentoring can be confusing and scary, but it can also be one of the most life-changing relationships we have. This plan, written from the perspective of a mentor and a mentee, will encourage you that you do have what it takes to influence others through mentoring.
