Walking With Jesus (Salvation)

DAY 5 OF 7

THERE IS NO CHAIR

“But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God."

Hebrews 10:12

In the Old Testament period, the Temple was a building that was devoted to worshiping the Lord. One of its unique qualities is that we could not find furniture called "chairs" in that building. The priests who served in the Temple had no chance to sit down. They were always actively serving by offering sacrifices. They took turns carrying out these tasks. They had to do it again because the sacrifices they offered were not effective in taking away the sins of God's people.

However, things are very different from the High Priest described in the New Testament! The writer of Hebrews brings up surprising facts, especially for the Jews, about the concept of ministry in the Temple. It turns out that we no longer find the high priest who stands to serve. On the other hand, we find that the New Testament's High Priest sits down forever!

Sitting symbolizes a resting state, quitting a job because the job is done. Unlike the priests of the Old Testament, Jesus Christ has completed His work. Jesus only offered the sacrifice once. It was a perfect sacrifice that took away sin forever. That sacrifice was Himself. He won the decisive victory over sin, and now He sat with His Father, witnessing the result of His victory.

There is strong reason to rejoice when you have accepted Jesus as High Priest. There is no reason for us not to rejoice. We have been redeemed. There is nothing more we can do to increase or decrease the perfection of His sacrifice. We need to be grateful and celebrate His victory!

Reflection

1. What does the priesthood of Christ mean to you?

2. What effect does the perfection of Christ's work have on your spiritual life?

Application:

Rejoice in the victorious Christ! Nothing can shake the foundation of our joy.

About this Plan

Walking With Jesus (Salvation)

Salvation is at the heart of the entire Bible. What should we do, as believers who have received salvation, so that other people can receive the same salvation? Through this "Walking with Jesus" devotional series, we will learn how to grow the fruit of salvation and fulfill our calling as followers of Christ.
