Break TrailSample
Receiving a gift is super exciting! Let's just be honest. Usually, we'll get our presents at either our birthday or Christmas . . . you know, the standard gift times. These are the moments a lot of us look forward to as we exchange gifts with the people we love to celebrate the special moments in our lives. But what about those times when we receive a gift outside of the norm? Those are the times when receiving something gets a little awkward. We weren't expecting it and probably didn't do anything special to earn the item someone gave us.
That's Easter. We celebrate Easter because it's when Jesus gave his life for ours. Rather than have us receive a direct punishment for our sin, Jesus died instead, taking on shame. Not because we earned it, because we couldn't. Not because we deserved this gift, because we didn't. He gave his life for ours simply because he loves us and wanted to. Jesus gave us the ultimate gift for no other reason than because he loves us.
When you are given a gift out of the blue, is it hard for to simply receive it?

About this Plan
If you're a hiker, you know a trail-breaker is someone who walks ahead, makes a new way, and invites others to follow. That's exactly what Jesus did for us. He broke a new trail with his birth, his life, his teachings, and then with his death and resurrection. In this 30-day devotional series designed for Lent, we’ll see how Jesus showed us a new way of living and knowing God.
