DAY 113 OF 365

The Day God Cried

Grief. Even the sound of the word is hard.

The definition: Intense emotional suffering caused by loss

Words. Just words.

What do words mean when you're sitting down in the middle of the road with Grief pulled over your head?

You can't hear.

The thoughts inside your head are too loud.

No. You can't cope with words.

Is there anyone who understands?

The losses loom so large: the empty bed, the silence, the tricycle sitting in the garage, the closet with all of the clean clothes hanging there,

the laughter you strain to hear. Gone. Another hard word: Gone.

There is One who knows.

His understanding is unfathomable . . .

WHO ELSE BUT GOD HAS GATHERED THE WIND
IN HIS FISTS? WHO ELSE BUT GOD HAS WRAPPED
THE WATERS IN HIS GARMENT?
PROVERBS 30:4

WHEN HE UTTERS HIS VOICE, THERE IS A TUMULT OF
WATERS IN THE HEAVENS . . . HE MAKES LIGHTNING
FOR THE RAIN, AND BRINGS OUT THE WIND
FROM HIS STOREHOUSE.
- JEREMIAH 10:13

AND BEHOLD, THE VEIL OF THE TEMPLE WAS TORN
IN TWO FROM TOP TO BOTTOM, AND THE EARTH SHOOK;
AND THE ROCKS WERE SPLIT . . . AND DARKNESS
FELL OVER THE WHOLE LAND.
MATTHEW 27:51, MARK 15:33

* * * * * * * *

HIS AGONIZED CRIES OF GRIEF SHATTERED
THE SILENCE OF HEAVEN!

(The people said it thundered.)

HE OPENED HIS FISTS AND HURLED THE
WIND TO THE FRIGHTENED EARTH!
HE CALLED FORTH THE LIGHTNING ILLUMINATING
THE HORROR OF THE SCENE BEFORE HIM!
THE WATERS WRAPPED IN HIS GARMENTS
SURGED FORTH TO DRENCH

THE BLOODY HILL!

HE PACED THE FLOORS OF HEAVEN AN
FLUNG HIS ARMS UPWARD IN AGONY!

(They said it was an earthquake.)

HE SHUT HIS EYES. HE COULD NOT ENDURE THE PAIN
AND BURIED HIS FACE IN HIS FISTS.

(They said darkness covered the earth.)

WITH ANGUISHED SOBS HE GRABBED HIS ROBE AT THE NECK
AND RIPPED IT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM!

(The veil into the Holy of Holies was split.)

WAIT.

BE STILL.

LISTEN.

Words are coming from the blood-caked parched lips of the One on the cross.

"Father, please forgive them.

They don't know what they are doing."

HE STOOD QUIETLY THEN, WITH BOWED HEAD. SPENT.
TEARS STREAKING HIS CHEEKS.
HE WATCHED AS THEY
CARRIED AWAY THE BODY OF HIS BOY.

It wasn't easy for God that day . . . the day He cried seeing His beloved Son crucified.

About this Plan

Lifetime Daily Devotions

Has your faith become more of a burden than a source of joy and rest? The Christian life is not difficult to live. It's impossible to live! God never intended for you to live it. Jesus Christ is the only one who who has ever successfully lived the Christian life, and His plan is to live it through you. We expend so much energy spinning our wheels, trying to live for God instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to live through us. In this deeply personal, encouraging devotional plan, Anabel Gillham comes alongside you to teach you how to allow Christ to express His overcoming life through you on a moment-by-moment basis. It will remind you of who you are in Christ. It will open the floodgates of God's grace, guiding you to experience true rest and freedom in the midst of the storms of life.
