Through the Bible: Job

DAY 8 OF 10

Job’s Final Appeal

I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman?
Job 31:1 (ESV)

Job tells us that he has made a covenant with his eyes. He goes on to ask the question, “Since I have made this vow – why would I look on a young woman to lust after her?”

Our vows and our actions should go hand in hand. What we say and what we do – should be consistent. God expects us to keep our covenant and to live up to our vows. Why? Because God always keeps His covenant.

Prayer

Abba Father, we worship You. We bow down to Your Lordship over our lives. You are the all-knowing God who sees all our thoughts and our ways. May we be committed to living a life of integrity and holiness. Let our 'Yes' be a 'Yes,' and our 'No' be a 'No.' We love You, Lord, and we want to honor our covenant for Your glory. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Job

Job demands a confrontation with God to know why He allows suffering, but finds himself only to receive condemnation from his three friends who conclude that suffering is the result of sins. Elihu rebukes them all by stressing the value in suffering instead. Finally, God speaks and assures His sovereignty amidst man’s suffering. Though the question “why” remains unanswered, Job’s repentance and restoration signify that victory over suffering will come.
