Walk Through The Bible 365 - JuneSample
True Freedom
It is interesting that the Bible contrasts being filled with the Spirit to being drunk with wine. Why this contrast? Are not the two so different? Drunk with wine and filled with the Spirit. What can be the common ground there? It is well known that drinking alcohol for some people releases them from their inhibitions and helps them to be free in their behaviour, and in parties, this helps people to sing and dance without inhibition. But the Bible encourages us to worship God through singing and other forms of worship without inhibition, freely and with all our heart. And how are we to do this is not by being drunk with wine but by being filled with the Spirit that this will give us the right motivation and heart to worship God freely with songs and hymns.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, fill us again with your Spirit. We want to sing to you in worship even new songs and hymns, we want to give thanks to you for everything, we want to submit to one another out of reverence for you, and for all this we need your Spirit. Fill us, Master. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
