Best “Team” in the World!

What to you makes a great family? Does your mom cook really yummy stuff? Does your dad play football with you? Do your brothers or sisters stick up for you in a fight? Does your pet run up to greet you when you get home? 

Those all sound wonderful, don’t they? Opening presents around the Christmas tree. Taking trips to the beach in the summer. Watching fireworks while eating popsicles. Sitting around the dining table singing Happy Birthday with a cake. All of it sounds great!

But maybe you don’t have cakes, and trips, treats. Maybe you don’t even have a mom or dad or brothers or sisters. Maybe you lost them and there is a big hollow place in your heart. Maybe the word “family” makes you feel sad. 

Whether you have a wonderful family or not, family is important. But get ready for some amazing news. If you belong to God, then you are part of another family…a really big one! It’s the family of God.

The coolest part is that this family has a really special Dad, our Father. He knows each one of us, and enjoys each one of us. His Son, Jesus, is a perfect reflection of what He is like, and Jesus shows us the heart of the Father in the Bible story below...

People were bringing little children to Jesus. They wanted him to place his hands on them to bless them. But the disciples told them to stop. When Jesus saw this, he was angry. He said to his disciples, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t keep them away. God’s kingdom belongs to people like them. What I’m about to tell you is true. Anyone who will not receive God’s kingdom like a little child will never enter it.” Then he took the children in his arms. He placed his hands on them to bless them.

To Jesus, each and every child was special. He took time for each one. Jesus held each one close. And He no doubt smiled at them. After all, He knew each one better than anyone else could.

Do you remember that the Bible says He knew you before He even created the world! And way back then, He chose you to be His. That’s right, before your parents, or grandparents, or even great-grandparents existed, He already knew you and had a special dream planned out for you. Part of that dream means you will be part of His family forever.
