DAY 24 OF 30

FIGHTING ISOLATION

Whether you’re introverted, extroverted, popular, or relatively unknown, loneliness can affect us all. We may be in seasons of life that isolate us: moving to a new city, having kids, changing jobs, or breaking off a relationship. A common misunderstanding about loneliness is that it is not contingent on actually being alone. You can be surrounded by people and feel utterly unknown. Feelings of loneliness are real, internal, and can be overwhelming. But it is in those moments that we have the opportunity to change our perspective. We have the power to change the message we are telling ourselves. If you’re feeling alone, take this opportunity to remind yourself of who God is to you. Spend time in His presence and let Him reveal who He is in your life. Make it personal. This is an opportunity to know God on a deeper level.

Isaiah 41:9b-11 says, “...For I have chosen you and will not throw you away. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” We serve a God that wants to be a part of our lives. God chose you, He is with you, He is for you, and He holds you. Maybe it doesn’t feel like it. It may seem odd to say the opposite of what you feel, but keep declaring God’s Word instead of your doubts. Your words matter, so change what you’re saying.

When you feel alone, say, “I don’t have to be afraid because God is with me.”

When you feel isolated, say, “God chose me and will strengthen and help me.”

When you feel lonely, say, “God is holding me up in His victorious right hand.”

Write out the declarations that are personal to you. In those moments when you’re feeling alone, they will help shift your perspective. Fighting isolation and feelings of loneliness are not uncommon. When we choose to lean on our Heavenly Father, we can grow through those hard moments and come out stronger than before.

PRAYER

Father, Thank You for being a God who is everything I need. I ask that Your presence would surround me in the moments when I feel isolated. Let me continue to turn my eyes to You and rest in knowing that You are always with me. You will strengthen me, help me, and hold me up with Your mighty hand. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
