How to Quit PornSample
Is Freedom Even Possible?
No matter how powerfully addictive the poison of pornography is, it’s no match for the redemptive power of the God who disarmed the power of sin, death, and hell through His willing sacrifice on the cross.
No matter what you’ve done or how long you’ve been addicted to pornography, freedom is possible. When Jesus showed up on the stage of history, He announced His mission by quoting a powerful prophecy from the book of Isaiah:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18-19 NIV
Pornography addiction can very easily feel like a prison cell that you’re locked in with no way out, but Jesus boldly declared that He came to set captives free!
Through Jesus, the rule and reign of God is taking root here on earth as it is in heaven. A new exodus has begun. In the first exodus, God liberated His people from their slavery in Egypt. Now, God is liberating His people from their slavery to sin.
But there’s a process that remains. Even though God pulled His people out of Egypt, He still needed to pull Egypt out of His people. Through the exodus, God gave the people of Israel a new identity, He formed them into a new community, and He gave them a new mission. But in order to live into their new identity, community, and mission, they had to let go of the toxic ways of thinking and destructive habits they had developed while in Egypt.
The same is true for us. Even though God has freed us from the power of sin and death, we still have to do the work of unlearning our old ways of thinking and replacing our old habits with practices that reflect who we are as a community of rescued and redeemed people.
Freedom is possible. And sometimes, it happens miraculously in a moment. But other times, it happens through the process of renewing our minds, transforming our hearts, and changing our behaviors by opening ourselves up to the work of the Spirit.
Tomorrow, we’ll look at some simple and practical steps we can take to move towards freedom. For now, let’s pray and ask God to begin the process of renewing our minds and transforming our hearts.
Pray: Heavenly Father, change me from the inside out. I don’t want to be held captive in the prison of pornography anymore. I need Your help to break free. Give me the wisdom to follow You faithfully, the courage to confront my toxic thinking and destructive habits, and the strength to replace those old thought patterns and behaviors with things that are good and true. In Jesus’ name, amen.
About this Plan
We live in a world where porn is more accessible and acceptable than ever before. Which raises the question, “Is porn really that bad?” And if it is that bad, “Is freedom even possible?” If it is, then how can someone get past the prison of pornography to experience the freedom found in Christ? Join us as we discover the path to freedom together.
