More Than a Book

DAY 6 OF 7

The rest of the Old Testament tells more about the Israelites waiting for their savior, but he doesn’t come. It seems like there is no hope, but then the New Testament begins with the birth of Jesus.

Jesus was born in the most humble way, which we celebrate at Christmas. He lived a perfect life without any sin. The religious leaders at the time hated him because he focused more on a relationship with God than he did following all of their rules, and it made them very upset. They thought faith was founded on doing the right thing, but it’s not - it’s all about having a personal relationship with God. They got so angry that they killed Jesus.

It looked like his story was over, but it wasn’t! Jesus rose from the dead three days later. He resurrected, conquered death and sin forever, and restored our relationship with God. Jesus fulfilled every single prophecy that was written about him, starting in Genesis 3 all the way to the things the prophets said about him. Every detail that God had told his people about their Savior was fulfilled in Jesus. He was the one the whole world was waiting for, the one who takes away sins and restores our relationship with God.

Challenge: Who is Jesus to you? Is he just another good person, a prophet, a good teacher? Or, is he the Savior you have been waiting for and needing your whole life? If you have never wrestled with the question of “who is Jesus to you,” why not do it today? If you have already chosen to trust Jesus, who is someone you can tell today? Who needs to hear the good news about Jesus?

If you want to trust Jesus today: Trusting Jesus is as simple as ABC - Admit you have sinned, Believe Jesus died on the cross for your sins, and Choose His forgiveness and trust Him!

Here is an example of a prayer you can pray today: “Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner. I believe you died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead. Jesus, I trust you to forgive my sins and I choose your free gift of forgiveness. Thank you for loving me. Today I want to put my trust in you! Amen.”
