Dealing With Loneliness

DAY 5 OF 7

Can you make an appointment with God? đź—“

I found this incredible truth that will encourage every one of us: seek times to be alone to meet with God. As I thought about this realization, a rush of memories and Bible verses flooded my conscious mind.

Do you make time to be alone to meet with God?

The Bible says:

  • Adam walked with God in the garden. “And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.” (Genesis 3:8, NKJV)

  • Jacob wrestled with an angel when he was alone. “Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.” (Genesis 32:24, NKJV)

  • Moses withdrew from his people for 40 days to meet with God. “but Moses alone is to approach the Lord; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him.” (Exodus 24:2, NIV)

  • And Jesus would purposefully withdraw from the crowds to meet with His father alone. “After leaving them, He went up on a mountainside to pray.” (Mark 6:46, NIV)

I believe most Christians have forgotten this secret of spiritual strength and revelation. Maybe it’s the cell phones, iPads, laptops or the hundreds of television stations that are readily available. Maybe it’s our fear of being alone or our fear of silence. I’ve ridden in cars with friends who had the music playing while we tried to speak. I’d politely ask them to shut it off. I’ve been in homes where the television was left on all day. I’d also ask them to turn it off.

We need to cultivate the power of being alone, being silent and hearing the internal voice of our soul and the voice of heaven.

The Apostle John discovered this while he was exiled on the island of Patmos: “After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”” (Revelation 4:1, NIV)

I love the second part of this story. John says, “Immediately I was in the Spirit;” (Revelation 4:2, NKJV). Wow!

It’s time to be alone, so we can encounter God to hear His “still small voice.” (1 Kings 19:12, NKJV)

I practice being alone every day to think, pray and seek God. I write these emails after I spend time in silence, in the Word of God and seeking His presence.

Because you’re a miracle.
