The Priority of Family

DAY 1 OF 4

TWO IMPORTANT WORDS

Kay Warren, a writer and wife of Rick Warren said "In parenting, we should pressure children to obey two words: 'Come' and 'No'." Children need to learn to respond by coming to us when they are called and accept "No" as an answer when we don't want to give them what they want. Later on, they can learn to obey God when God uses the same words for them.

How do we respond when we hear God says "Come" or "No"? In the above verse, God tells us to “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” However, even though we are tired because we have to carry heavy burdens, we still say that we don't have time to come to God. We are busy doing this and that without realizing that our burdens become heavier. We endure everything with our strength and say, “No” when God invites us to come to Him.

On the other hand, if God says "No" to us through His words, it could be that what we ask for is not a good thing for us. However, we often deliberately violating it. We often think of it as an unanswered prayer and wait for it. We even think that God doesn't care about us. When God forbids us to do something, it’s because He wants the best for us. When He invites us, He also does that so that we can get the best.

Therefore, listen to God's voice and don't harden your heart. He understands our situation and knows what we need. Our obedience describes how much we acknowledge Him.

Today’s devotional

1. What is the response we often give to God's callings or commands?

2. When we were still children, how difficult was it to obey our parents? When we grow up today, how hard is it to obey the Lord? Why?

Today’s actions

Just as parents who want their children to obey them, our heavenly Father also wants us to obey Him. Obey it if it is God's will.
