Never AloneSample
Day 7: Where Would I Be
“You do not want to leave too, do you?”Jesus asked the Twelve [disciples].
Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” - John 6:67 - 68
People that met Jesus either loved him to the point of even giving up their lives for him or hated him to the point of trying to kill him and the lives of his followers. There was no middle ground, and understandably so. Jesus’ claims were outrageous:
1. That he was God in the flesh (John 6:51)
2. That he would rise from the dead (Mark 8:31)
3. That he was the ultimate truth, to which all other truths should be measured against (John 14:6)
This is why, 2000 years later, we have domesticated Jesus, turning him into a great teacher of ethics or ‘Baby Jesus’ - the halo-wearing infant with diapers. It's easy to tolerate such a Jesus; he fits snuggly into our open-minded culture.
But what if believing in the real Jesus means you believe in one God, who clothed himself in humanity? What if that God taught you how to live, showing you that his law was not a killjoy but a way to embrace the best type of life? Both life now and life later.
Well, that's what it meant and still means to be a Christian.
We love Jesus because we believe him. That belief has changed us. We believe he came from heaven to show us that God has not forgotten us. That he died and rose again to forgive our sin and empower us to live differently. For those of us that have been changed by such love, we must look back at our lives before meeting Jesus and wonder in amazement, ‘Where would I be without you?’
