Not A Number

Lose the lie:  “The scale determines my worth.”  

For over half my life I’ve wrestled with weight issues.  It’s embarrassing how much I’ve given power to the world’s standards for weight.  So I want to lead you to think better about a common problem most women face.  Many of us suffer with acknowledging where lies start, but we don’t know how to get rid of them.    

What does that have to do with weighing?  It’s time to measure truth!

If you would’ve told me the truth as a child with a pixie haircut and dressed in a chubby-sized dress, I wouldn’t have heard you.  I wouldn’t have recognized truth ... even with freckles and toothless grins.  My point is we attach ourselves to many childhood labels in an effort to fit into the world’s mold.    

Truth exists in a lie-laden world but isn’t the source of lies.  

Satan is the father of lies.  John 8:44 says,  “When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”  Truth is not in Satan and a murder from the beginning.  Satan sets his sights on you, the target. When I think of all the years I bowed down to the opinions of the mirror, man’s opinion, and the scale, it really grieves my heart.  I was rooted in lies instead of God’s liberating truth.  Surely, I grieved God’s heart too!

The scale and mirror only reflect part of your story.  They can’t measure your internal changes.  Christians are given a choice to reflect God’s glory or the standards of the world. We can choose to overcome our short-comings and use them as a beacon of God’s grace.  Or bow and swallow the lies the world offers, thus rooting ourselves in Satan’s darkness.

Gain God’s truth:  It’s time to put those lies and excuses to death.  See yourself as beautiful and held by God’s amazing grace instead of the lies and accusations of your inanimate accusers.  Don’t let those pesky labels of your past define you.  Let God’s Word speak your true identity in Christ.  You are not a number to God.  God’s truth never lies!  You are a jewel in His crown.  Now, measure yourself up against the standard of His Word and reflect Him!
