Through the Bible: Genesis

DAY 7 OF 15

The Heart of the Matter is the Matter of the Heart

But he said to me, ‘The Lord, before whom I have walked, will send his angel with you and prosper your way. You shall take a wife for my son from my clan and from my father's house.
Genesis 24:40
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

When confronted with pressing decisions along our life journeys, what is our response? In Genesis 24 and 25, we see the consequences of choices and how they impacted the course of the generations that followed. There was Abraham, bearing the covenantal promise of God in his heart, who commissioned his trusted servant to seek a wife for Isaac with discernment to honour God. Eliezer, the faithful servant seeking God’s guidance and confirmation as he set out in faith, encountered Rebekah, the one that God orchestrated in answer to his prayers. Rebekah, who understood the divine purposes of God, took courage and left with the blessings of her family.

However, favouritism and strife opened doors of deceitfulness, distorted motives and misplaced choices in Jacob’s family. Esau gave in to his earthly gratification, abandoning his God-given blessing of a firstborn. Our perspectives and actions will be significantly governed by the posture of our hearts. Let us be intentional to make Christ as our centre by surrendering all to Him, resulting in God’s goodness and blessings in our life.

Prayer:

Father, we are so grateful for Your loving heart that redeems despite all our failings. May our hearts and deeds be daily rooted in Your love and truth, our choices aligning for Your Kingdom purposes. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Genesis

Everyone has an origin. It explains why we are here, and who we really are. But what about the origin of mankind? The answer lies in the book of Genesis, which means “in the beginning”. The book will help us understand the beginning of creation, the fall of mankind and unfolds God’s redemptive plan for humanity. Please join us as we journey Through The Bible starting with Genesis.
