How do I fight temptations? 

Well, you don’t fall into temptation by chance or mistake – you have already rehearsed about it in your mind before. So, above all, guard your heart. Guarding your heart means setting boundaries in your thoughts, relationships, feelings, choices, etc. And, the way you guard your heart is by guarding your senses. 

So what are you feeding your eyes? What magazines do you read? What videos do you watch?

Many single girls are struggling with pornography. When you find yourself “stuck” in singleness, turning to porn seems to be a ‘feasible’ option. “Everybody else is watching it,” you will say. However, pornography is demonic and will ruin your idea about sex and marriage. It is addictive, creates wrong expectations and fantasies, puts you in a never-ending cycle of condemnation. Its origin is lust, and lust doesn’t stop till it has consumed and destroyed the person completely. 

The Bible says, “Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.” (1 Cor 6:18 NLT). 

Again, if you are regularly fighting depression, emotional battles, and mood swings, check the songs on your playlist. 

Which friends are you spending most of your time with? Watch out; you become what you surround yourself with. Do not be deceived, bad company corrupts good character (1 Cor 15:33). If your friends are addicted to drugs, smoking, drinking, you will be drawn into it sooner or later. Don’t do things for the acceptance of people. Know that God accepts you the way you are. Ask God, and He will give you the right kind of friends. 

You see, each of us has different weaknesses – know what they are, know what tempts you, and know your risk zones. Also, sin, secrets, and shame grow in the dark. So instead of hiding, the first step to freedom is to expose it to a God-fearing accountability partner (of the same sex) who can pray with you and guide you. There is nothing to be ashamed of, but acknowledge that you need help. That’s the biggest step to your breakthrough.

Every day, surrender your sexual life to God and fill yourself with His Word.
