Matthew: Part 2Sample

Matthew: Part 2

DAY 5 OF 10

When you hold on to hurt, it’s really only hurting you.

The person who made you mad and upset you probably isn’t really thinking about it anymore. They’ve moved on.

Someone once said, “Holding on to unforgiveness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”

When you hold onto hurt, you constantly replay that thing in your mind. You constantly think about it. You allow it to bother you and to keep making you angry. It affects you more than anyone else.

When you forgive others, it frees you from all of that.

Maybe, you aren’t willing to forgive because you don’t want to admit that the other person was right. You don’t want to say it was okay.

Forgiving others does not mean what they did was right. It does not mean that you were okay with the way they treated you. It doesn’t mean you’ll forget what happened.

However, it does free us from bitterness, anger, and the need to get revenge.

And - as followers of Jesus, forgiving others shouldn’t really be an option.

God has forgiven you a huge debt. God has forgiven you of your sin. You are to forgive others, just as Jesus has forgiven you.

Forgiven people forgive people.

Is there anyone that you need to forgive? In the next couple of days, forgive that person.

About this Plan

Matthew: Part 2

As followers of Jesus, one of the best things we can do is look at Jesus’ life and learn from him. Join us as we look at the second part of Matthew. Each day has a suggested reading, but don't let that stop you from reading the entire chapter!
