Overcome Porn: The 40 Day ChallengeSample
Today, we're switching gears again. We've looked at what it means to run from sin and temptation and what it means to run to holy pleasures. Now, we must learn what it means to run with others who can help us.
As we’ve reflected in previous days, God created us in a way to be in relationship with others. Because we were made for it, naturally that means it helps us and brings us to where we need to be—who God made us to be. God desires mankind to live in union and in community, having the same mind which is centered on his son Jesus Christ (Phil. 2:1-11, Ps. 133:1).
Communities and individual relationships call us to be the people we are called to be—not to who we think we should be, but truly who God desires us to be. This involves vulnerability and transparency.
Not many people like talking about their weaknesses with others. And many people think they can overcome and/or become what they are called to be on their own and without the help of family and friends.
Nate Larkin used to be a lot like this. He wanted to just beat porn all on his own. But after his sin got out of control, he knew something needed to change.
Today, you get to hear Nate's story—a story of freedom and friendship.
Action Step
Listen to this brief clip of Nate Larkin talking about how accountability and honesty finally helped him break free from years of porn and sex addiction.
Reflection
We’ve talked about the importance of running from sin and temptation and running to God and his good gifts. But we also must run with others who can help us. There is a tremendous liberty when you arrive at a place that’s safe enough to bring your real self and say the real truth. What was the most powerful thing you want to remember from Nate’s story? If you don’t already have an accountability ally —someone you can be vulnerable with—who do you know who might fit that role?
