DAY 3 OF 8

Power Boost 3: 100% Self (Surrender)

READY

“Then He said to the crowd, ‘If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.’” Luke 9:23 NLT

SET

I will never forget the time I had to quit the basketball team in high school. During my junior year, I was failing two classes, and our team schedule was not good for someone who was failing. So, I had a meeting with the coach and left my spot behind. I was very sad but knew I had to focus on my schoolwork. What I wanted was to play basketball, but I knew I might fail those classes if I played.

Doing what I needed required me to set my own desires aside and do something very hard. If we want to truly follow God with our lives, we must do that very thing. Luke 9:23 says we need to give up our way or our plans and do what God wants us to do. Jesus also said to do it every day. But the best part of this verse is the phrase “follow me.” Jesus is not just pointing you to the right way. He wants to go with you. Following the direction God gives you can be hard, but you should always remember that He is with you each day as you go.

GO

  1. Have you ever had to make a hard choice? What was it?
  2. How did everything work out when you made that hard choice?
  3. What does 100% surrender mean to you?

WORKOUT

  • Matthew 28:19-20
  • Philippians 2:16-17

OVERTIME

“Father, I know You want to work in and through my life. Help me to follow You each day, no matter how hard it is at that time. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
