30 Day Challenge: A Walk Through ProverbsSample
Day Nineteen
Read Proverbs 19
Yesterday we looked at the power of the tongue. Today let’s think about the power of listening. Proverbs 19:20-21 says, “listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.”
Reflect
What does chapter 19 tell us about those who do not listen to instruction?
What other kinds of actions does this chapter encourage? What kinds does it warn against?
Engage
How well do you take advice?
Do you listen and take advice to heart? Do you disregard it? Do hard conversations hurt?
True listening requires obedience. If we hear the words spoken to us, but ignore them, we aren’t actually listening. How can you practice listening in your life?
An Extra Mile
Take some time and pray that God would help you listen well. If you can, ask a good friend or family member who knows you well about how you listen. Be prepared to hear advice and learn from them.

About this Plan
Oftentimes life looks like an open road and we aren’t sure which way it will turn. Other times, we feel like we are in control of where we are heading—no need to stop for directions. As believers, we must make sure that our GPS is programmed to the Word. God is our ultimate guide through the journey; He is the Creator of the road itself.
