“Never Alone”
One of the most ridiculous lies the Enemy tries to use to keep us discouraged is the idea that we are all alone. He says junk like, “No one gets it. No one sees you. No one knows how you feel or how hard it is to be you. Your suffering isn’t noticed. You’ve got to figure it out and carry it on your own.”
These lies couldn’t be further from the truth. You are, in fact, never alone. Ever. The Spirit of God never leaves you. The psalmist puts it like this in 139:7 (NIV):
Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
Yet we so often forget. We act as though we must find our own way. We act as though we must get ourselves out of every dark place. We act as though the Holy Spirit pops in and out of our lives to give us advice and then leaves. Why? Because we become distracted by what we see, what we feel, and what we think rather than what we know deep within us. We forget that we’ve been given the Spirit of God to guide us through every situation and storm.
So, I’m going to propose something here. Your body can misfire chemicals and have incorrect balances that make your heart race, but you still have peace within you. You can be walking through seasons of sadness or struggle and still have peace within you. You can be doing well and have peace within you. You can be hurting and have peace within you. Because Jesus is peace and His peace doesn’t leave you.
I don’t know what your life looks like right now. I don’t know if things are great or if you’re teetering on the edge of what seems like a bottomless pit. But I know that if you ask God to give you His supernatural peace in the middle of this moment, He will. Not because you prayed the right way. Not because you earned it or deserved it. But because Jesus made a way for you to never be alone.
Father, thank You for the gift of Your constant presence. No matter what is happening in my life, remind me again and again that You haven’t left me. Amen.
