There's Hope For Today

DAY 65 OF 366

God never calls us to a task that fits. He always calls us to something beyond our strength, imagination, talent, and depth, because He wants us to trust him.

He also delights in pouring living water from well-worn clay pots. Look at the Bible record. Saul of Tarsus proved himself an able executioner, but as a life-giver, he was out of his depth. A missionary, you say? He was an angel of death! David didn’t look much like kingly material writing whimsical songs and singing them to disinterested sheep. When God called Gideon a “man of valor,” you could almost hear the angels snicker.

Remember Noah? We don’t know that the man had ever built a rowboat, and God commanded him to build the Ark. And what did old Noah know about zoology? How about the Apostles? I wouldn’t have expected them to be able to organize a church in Bethany, let alone Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth.

God entrusts ordinary people with extraordinary tasks so that He might demonstrate His power through us. Does the task fit you perfectly? Cast it aside for a better challenge. God always calls us to something greater than ourselves.
