There's Hope For TodaySample
Most people have the luxury of locking their nightmares in tight little closets. For this man, there was no hiding place.
Idle time, lustful thoughts, sexual sin, a botched cover-up, premeditated murder, a somber wedding, a dying child – all this in the life of a man after God’s heart. Who can imagine his shame, his humiliation? Lying on the floor of the palace begging God for grace – for judgment deferred, he held on to the hope that his illegitimate child would be spared. For seven days he cried and prayed, and then, it was over! “Is the child dead?” King David asked. “Yes.” It was over. Facing circumstances he could not change, and having received forgiveness he could not earn, David got off the floor and went to the house of the Lord to worship. With a sober heart, he closed the book on his sin and moved on.
Few people do that. Rather, they settle within sight of their failures. Awash in tears of confession, they never see the light on the far side of repentance. God never intended such a waste of life.
When it’s over, and lessons have been written on the heart, there is nothing to be gained at the tomb of sin forgiven … not a moment to be lost on the road that leads beyond.
