There's Hope For Today

DAY 344 OF 366

Every year, twenty-nine professional gamblers roll the dice in Madison Square Garden at the annual National Basketball Association Draft. The gamblers carry titles of “General Manager” or “Vice-President In Charge of Player Personnel,” but they’re gamblers nonetheless.

They’re laying millions on the line, hoping to uncover the next Michael Jordan. They will gamble on unknown players because they know, “It’s not what you are, it’s what you could be.” These executive gamblers have studied all the statistics, attended workouts, assembled personality profiles, and conducted family interviews. They have caucused to debate strengths and weaknesses. They approach the draft with ten different scenarios. The best a gambler can do is assess possibilities and probabilities.

On the shore of Galilee, Jesus drafted players for a team for the ages: world changers. A basketball GM sees a player and says, “You could be.” Jesus looked at a fisherman named Simon and said, “You shall be.” Christ imparts the power to become all that God planned before we drew our first breath. You’re not a gamble to God. You’re a sure thing.
